About Me

Gary Simmons

Gary Simmons is running for the Delegate seat because he is confident that his experiences serving as a community advocate, working in our public schools as well as working in various areas of the public service sector positions him to be the best person to fight for us in Annapolis.
A native of Savannah Georgia, Gary moved to Amityville, New York at 12 years old, to be raised by his Aunt Rose and Uncle Jimmy along with their three children. Not only did they teach Gary valuable life skills, but they also taught him the value of serving his community wherever help is needed. His first youth internship was with his local county legislator’s office. It was during that experience Gary decided to pursue political science. Upon completion of high school, he enrolled at Tuskegee University to study political science and criminal justice. Upon his return to New York, he put his education from Tuskegee immediately to use and worked for the Suffolk County New York Board of Elections, Suffolk County Probation Office, and the United States Attorney’s Office (New York Eastern District) Weed and Seed joint law enforcement task force and anti-crime program as their Program Director
In 2006, Gary relocated to Maryland to start his family and began his career as a Special Police Officer with the Department of Defense at Bolling Air Force Base and later Andrews Air Force base 316th security forces squadron (SPO) also as Program manager and (SPO’s) Captain at the United States Publishing Office in Washington DC before retiring in 2017. Upon retirement, he worked as a temporary staff assistant at Lindale Middle School in Linthicum, Maryland.

Gary desires to serve citizens of Anne Arundel County in a larger capacity. His three key areas of focus are: Education, Environment, and our local Economy. Of course, he looks forward in getting out into our community to learn and advocate for issues that are most important to citizens.

My Vision & Mission for North County

Education

I will fight for more capital improvement funds for our schools such as land acquisition, building construction and revitalization. Advocate for educators to receive enhanced and premium pay. Work to dedicate more funding for after-school programs. Encourage nonprofit organizations to partner with our schools by utilizing school buildings for community and family outreach purposes. Partner with local businesses to Support schools and library base initiatives. Develop and expand mentorship programs that support our students. Help provide wraparound services to our ESL (English as a Secondary Language) students both inside and outside of the classroom.

Environment

I will advocate to reduce the carbon footprint in our community by expanding our public transportation infrastructure to serve the North County area. Work with citizens to identify ways to reduce food deserts in North County by providing more farm-to-table options. Support organizations to preserve the Chesapeake Bay and our county’s numerous waterways. Support legislation that protects our environment and reduces the effects of climate change. Increase our tree canopy in areas where it’s most needed and to ensure that solar energy is available and affordable to all.

Economy

I will work to secure additional funding for small businesses that support job growth for local residents. Encourage businesses to relocate to the area through tax incentives. Partner with community development organizations and lending institutions to create affordable housing. Help provide educational and career training programs to support our working class and senior citizens.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
